1. because (conj.) / because of (prep.)

He did very well on the mid-term exam because he studied hard for it.

The window of the office was broken because of the continual strong wind.

2. due to (prep.)

(O) His failure was due to his arrogance.

(X) His failure is due to he is too arrogant.

3. because of 和 due to 到底哪裡不一樣?

(O) He got sick because of a sudden drop of the temperature.
(X) He got sick due to a sudden drop of the temperature.

(O) The company’s huge success is due to the team’s hard work.
(X) The company’s huge success is because of the team’s hard work.

4. owing to (prep.)

(O) He fell asleep as soon as he laid down owing to a lack of sleep.

(X) His fatigue is owing to a lack of sleep.

(O) His fatigue is due to a lack of sleep.

5. since (conj.)

Since you are here, could you help me move this heavy box?

比較:since (prep.)

He has lived in San Francisco since 1987.

He has been depressed since his wife passed away.

6. for (conj.)

They remain silent, for they don’t know what to say.

It must have just rained, for the ground is wet.
